How to Get a Real Estate Designation: First Steps

It is important to grow and develop as a professional in order to succeed in a highly changing industry. This is why many real estate professionals are giving themselves a competitive edge through expert training and industry-recognized designations that provide career-long benefits like increased skill and reputability. 
 

If you are reading this article, there is a good chance that you’ve also decided to stay ahead of the pack and invest in your career by earning a real estate designation - but where do you start?
 

The First Step

The first step to receiving a real estate designation is to become a member of REIC. REIC designations help you build a thriving career in the real estate industry. A credentialed Member signifies a real estate professional who has achieved the highest standards of experience and education, and who has made a solid commitment to business ethics.

Ethics and standards are the cornerstone of what we do, and becoming an REIC Member lets clients know you are focused on upholding the REIC Code of Professional Standards


Benefits of Membership

Real estate professionals from any sector of the industry are able to enrol in REIC courses, which are priced at Member and Non-Member rates. REIC Members receive a number of benefits, including:
  • Discounted tuition, events, services and products
  • Access to local and national resources
  • Member networking and support
  • Online promotion
Membership with REIC provides ongoing access to a wealth of resources, networking opportunities and business referrals. Members with property management credentials are also members of IREM and enjoy access to IREM's vast resources and tools. 
 

How to Apply

To become an REIC Member, you must submit an application for Candidacy. This will get the ball rolling. To do this:
  • Select the designation program that best suits your needs.
  • Download the application form (located on the left hand side menu), fill out your information, and submit it.
  • You will be notified once you are approved as a Candidate Member.

Fulfill Education and Experience Requirements
  • Each designation has unique education and experience requirements. If you aren’t sure if
    your education or experience qualifies for the designation you are interested in, contact
    REIC
    directly to discuss with a staff member.

The Peer Interview Process
  • Once you have completed your education requirements and have the necessary experience, you will be contacted by a representative from your local REIC Chapter for a peer interview.
 

Receiving your Designation

You will receive your designation certificate and pin when you:
  • Complete the education and experience requirements.
  • Complete the peer interview.
  • Commit to the REIC Code of Professional Standards.
  • Pay annual dues fees as established by the Institute.
