REIC Rentals deployed an initial fleet of 10 Solar Hybrid Light Towers to the mine site. Performance data were collected across all units over a 12-month operating cycle, enabling a comprehensive comparison with conventional light tower technology.
Each unit utilized hybrid solar technology combined with a backup DC generator and was monitored through DSE remote monitoring, enabling accurate tracking of engine runtime and fuel usage.
Over the 12-month period, the Solar Hybrid Light Towers averaged just 3.7 hours of engine runtime per day, demonstrating the effectiveness of the solar component in reducing reliance on diesel power.
Total monthly cost savings ranged from $13,438 to $30,706, depending on whether daily labor for manually operating conventional light towers was included. On a per-unit basis, this translated to savings of approximately $1,343 to $3,070 per light tower per month.
Reduced engine runtime also led to lower fuel consumption, fewer refuelling intervals, and lower maintenance requirements.
The project confirmed that REIC Rentals’ Solar Hybrid Light Towers deliver strong financial and operational benefits for mining environments. With the ability to operate for up to 35 days between refuelling, fewer oil changes, and real-time remote monitoring via a GPS-enabled interface, the towers significantly improved uptime and reduced operational complexity.
